BARNSHAWS VISIT – TWO CLASSIC ROUNDO MACHINES REBORN

We’re pleased to share a recent success story from SweBend, who welcomed Russ Barnshaw and Sylwester Twardowski from Barnshaws, one of the world’s leading specialists in rolled metal components.

The visit focused on two classic Roundo machines that have been expertly restored and upgraded by SweBend’s experienced team, many of whom originally worked at Roundo in Hässleholm before its closure over a decade ago.

The first machine, a Roundo PS460x3000 from 1991, was originally built by members of the current SweBend team. Although decades old, the machine was still mechanically sound. SweBend carried out a complete overhaul, fitted a modern control system, and gave the unit a fresh look in SweBend colours, restoring its function and appearance to modern standards.

Also during the visit, Barnshaws inspected a Roundo R-3 from 1998 that had recently undergone its own transformation. This machine was upgraded with frequency inverters for rotation and the hydraulic pump, enabling variable speed control and interpolation, capabilities the original model lacked.

The addition of a Bluetooth control system and separate electrical cabinet further enhanced its precision and operational flexibility.

There’s a strong legacy behind these machines. Russ Barnshaw and SweBend founder Peter Nilsson have worked together since the late 1980s, when Peter was part of Roundo. That long-standing relationship continues to thrive through mutual respect, shared projects, and a commitment to high-quality engineering.
