Make Difficult Bends Easier With Swebend Seven X CNC

As material specifications become tougher and bending tolerances tighter, achieving an accurate, repeatable bend can become increasingly challenging.

SweBend’s SEVEN X CNC system is designed to take more of that complexity out of the bending process, using intelligent control and real-time measurement to help operators achieve greater accuracy, consistency and repeatability.

And the technology isn’t limited to new SweBend machines. SEVEN X can also be retrofitted to many existing bending machines, providing a practical way to upgrade older equipment with modern CNC control.

Intelligent Control While You Bend

One of the biggest challenges in bending is that seemingly identical pieces of material do not always behave identically. Variations in material properties and springback can affect the finished radius, particularly when working to demanding tolerances or producing batches of identical components.

SEVEN X helps compensate for these variations during the bending process.

SweBend’s IRMA automatic radius measurement and correction system continuously monitors the bending radius and can automatically adjust the process to compensate for changes in material behaviour.

Rather than relying solely on the original programmed values, the system measures what is actually happening during the bend. Corrections can then be used to help maintain the required radius and improve consistency throughout repeat production.

The result is greater process control, reduced dependence on manual adjustment and the potential to reduce incorrectly formed components and material waste.

Radius And Surface Control With Sure

SweBend is continuing to develop its intelligent bending technology with SURE – Surface Uniformity and Radius Evaluation.

SURE evaluates both the radius and the edge of the workpiece, giving the control system additional information about the geometry being produced.

For increasingly demanding applications, this ability to assess the workpiece as it is being formed gives manufacturers another level of control over the finished component.

The technology will be demonstrated on a SweBend PB4-8-6 plate bending machine at EuroBLECH in Hannover this October.

From Analog To CNC

Perhaps one of the most significant advantages of the SEVEN X system is that manufacturers do not necessarily need to replace an existing bending machine to benefit from modern CNC technology.

Almost any analog bending machine can potentially be upgraded with the SweBend CNC control system.

A typical conversion from analog control to CNC can be completed in around three days, including installation, machine tuning and operator training.

This provides an alternative for businesses with mechanically sound bending machinery where the limitations are increasingly coming from the control system rather than the machine itself.

SEVEN X can also be adapted to integrate additional equipment such as robots and material handling systems, allowing the control system to form part of a wider automated production process.

Developed From Decades Of Bending Experience

SweBend has been developing and refining its bending control technology since the 1980s.

Today’s SEVEN X system combines that bending knowledge with an intuitive graphical interface and a range of applications designed to help operators simulate, analyse and optimise the bending process.

The system is available in more than 30 languages and can be configured around individual production requirements.

Whether installed on a new SweBend machine or retrofitted to existing bending equipment, the objective remains the same: to make increasingly complex bending operations easier to control and more repeatable.
